Comprehensive training for caregivers

​The Basic Eldercare Course is a comprehensive training programme for caregivers including Foreign Domestic Workers (FDWs) to learn how to care for the elderly and manage their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). ​​

Topics Taught


The topics taught include:
  1. Understanding ageing and common chronic diseases 
  2. Communicating with the elderly 
  3. Understanding and monitoring vital signs 
  4. Personal hygiene 
  5. Day-to-day care
    • Toileting 
    • Skin care 
    • Feeding (oral and tube feeding) 
    • Bathing, grooming and dressing 
    • Transferring and mobility 
  6. Nutrition and hydration 
  7. Simple activities and exercises for the elderly 
  8. Assisting to serve medication 
  9. Preventing falls in the home 
  10. Basic first aid

There will be many hands-on demonstrations and illustrations to help caregivers understand better. 

The course will be conducted in English.

Course fees range from $400- $500  but those who qualify for Caregiver Training Grant  can offset $200 of the course fees .

Participants may use the certificate received for this course to apply for the Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) Grant .


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA


The care recipient must be:

  • 65 years of age and above
  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
* For care recipients below the age of 65, eligibility will be assessed on a case-to-case basis.

The FDW:
  • Should be able to speak English
  • Must not have attended the Basic Eldercare Course previously
